PEACEful place - close to NATURE is a self catering accommodation located in the outskirt of Reykjavik, in the beautiful surroundings of Mosfellsbaer. The apartment is peaceful, clean and cozy and has all the comforts of home. It accommodates up to 4 people with well equipped kitchenette, a bathroom with a step-in shower, a bedroom with a double bed and a furnished living room. Mosfellsbaer is often referred to as "the green town" because of the geothermal sources in town and the first greenhouse in Iceland was built in Mosfellsbaer (1923). The WOOL industry was also built up in Mosfellsbaer at Álafoss and the wool-factory buildings from 1896 are still standing. They house now a souvenir store, Álafoss where photographs and various objects from the old days at the factory can been seen, in the house are also workshops and artgalleries. The museum Gljúfrasteinn, the former home and workplace of Halldór Laxness (1902-1998) our Nobel Prize Winner in Literature 1955 is in the valley of Mosfellsdalur in a 10 minutes drive from our property.
The NATURE is all around Mosfellsbaer, with the ocean and mountains nearby, the environment is family friendly and provides numerous opportunities for outdoor and leisure activities. Two geothermal heated SWIMMING pools are in town, Lágafellslaug and Varmárlaug, two GOLF courses, a horse rental, WALKing and cycling pathes, a BIRD watching house by the ocean where the STABLES are also located. Mountain BIKING has become more and more popular sport here in Iceland and in the 2010 a bike park was opened at the mountain Skálafell, Skálafell Bike Park which is also our ski area during winter of course and there are about 20 km from the town to the Bike Park.
The population is close to 8.900 and all necessary service is in town such as supermarkets, banks, postoffice, restaurants, patrol stations, pharmacy, library, bakery/café, souvenir shop and more. From Mosfellsbaer is a 15 minutes drive to the center of our capital, Reykjavik.
How to get there: From KEFLAVIK Airport to Mosfellsbaer is approximetly 2 hours drive (55 km) see map to left. The Flybus can also be taken from the airport to the Bus Terminal Station (BSÍ) in the city center of Reykjavík. The Bus nr. 15 is to be taken at BSÍ to Mosfellsbaer.
